The Rann Utsav of Kutch (Gujarat) - Vegan Tour Package
The Rann Utsav is a major desert festival started in 2005 as a three-day festival is today a 100-day festival beginning on November 01 and concluding on February 20 every year. An entire tent city with 400+ self-contained tents with Air-conditioning and proper lighting is constructed on a bare expanse of land in the desert one kilometer from the Dhordo village. The tent city attracted 4,38,125 tourists in 2019.
The Rann Utsav turned around the fortunes of Kutch, from a ravished earthquake in 2001 that destroyed lives, jobs and property to a land giving opportunity and employment to the artisans, salt farmers and labourers during the festival, to offer their services and sell their wares and also enrichening the Gujarat's treasury by ₹81.15 Crores.
The UNESCO and World Heritage Site Dholavira, located on Khatri bet island in the Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary in the Great Rann of Kutch, is one of the five largest Harappan sites and most prominent archaeological sites in India belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization. What intrigues archeologist, engineers and town planners is its pre-existing geometrical plan and their advanced hydraulic engineering given the state of technology in the third millennium BC.
Kalo Dungar or Black Hill is the highest point in Kutch at 462 m (1,516 ft.). A place of visit when you are staying in the Rann. This is probably the only place in Kutch from where a panoramic view of the Great Rann of Kutch is possible. Kalo Dungar magnetic hill is a popular optical illusion where vehicle seems to defy the gravity and roll up the slope.
The Sunset in the Rann at around 6.00 pm. is magnificent. Although we have witnessed it many a times, the experience at the Rann is incomparable and will leave you craving for more. An endless stretch of the golden glow that goes all the way from Gujarat’s Kutch district to Pakistan’s Sindh. This sight is not to be missed.
Six ecologically rich and wildlife conservation areas worth a visit in Kutch are the Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary, Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary, Kutch Bustard Sanctuary, Banni Grasslands Reserve and Chari-Dhand Wetland Conservation Reserve.
