Maoists have now issued a diktat to kill all dogs in villages bordering Jharkhand and West Bengal. This has spurred animal lovers to appeal to the Maoists to spare the lives of dogs in the area infested by the Red ultras.

The diktat against canines, both stray and pet dogs, was issued as they were posing problems to the movement of Maoists, especially at night. Many a times, dogs alerted villagers and security forces of Maoists in the vicinity.

President of Nagrik Suraksha Samiti (NSS) Shankar Hembrom confirmed that panic-stricken villagers have killed a few stray dogs to escape wrath of the ultras. NSS comprises villagers resisting Maoists in Ghatshila area of Jharkhand bordering West Bengal.

Residents of Chakulia and Bahragora blocks, too, said that Maoists had indeed ordered killing of dogs. In many cases, Maoists themselves killed the dogs.
